Morteza chaired the 5th edition of Single-Molecule Sensors and NanoSystems International Conference (S3IC; Rome, January 2026), together with Prof. Frank Vollmer (University of Exeter, UK). The conference brings together world experts, PhD students and postdocs, across disciplines to discuss the latest advances in single-molecule sensors and systems. The themes cover optical and electrical sensing of single-molecules, quantum measurement with single-atom vacancies, interferometry, nanopore technologies, DNA origami, synthetic molecular machines, etc.

BMC’s PhD students (Justin Cronk, Lorenzo Petrella and Amelie Viol) played an active role on the scientific committee.
